Coming Halifax from Cape Breton, boaters come through Chedabucto Bay can cruise across the Strait of Canso to Guysborough.
At the head of Chedabucto Bay lies the Shire town of Guysborough, which has an attractive waterfront with a full-service marina and boardwalk. Boaters coming into Guysborough Harbour will pass under the Boylston Bridge, so navigational charts must be consulted.
In Guysborough there is a community theatre, shops, restaurants, a golf course, brewery and picnic park.
The Old Court House is an historic site where visitors can explore the history of area, including its Acadian and Black settlements.
To head west towards Halifax, boater must first head east towards the historic fishing town of Canso, at the mouth of Chedabucto Bay. Canso is home of the Stan Rogers Folk Festival. The festival is held every July in honour of the legendary folk singer, whose lyrics echoed his Maritime experience on land and sea. There is a small marina and a public wharf in Canso, along with a variety of amenities, and a regatta is held every August.
From Canso, a southwesterly course leads boaters to docks in Liscombe and Sherbrooke.
Liscombe lies near the mouth of the St. Mary's River, the largest river in Nova Scotia, while 10 nautical miles upriver is Sherbrooke Village, an historical re-creation of 19th century Sherbooke.
